Lyft App / Scooters

Creating a safe & positive first scooter ride experience

In many scooter markets, slow first ride (aka “beginner mode”) had emerged as a contractual requirement that operators must meet to deploy their vehicles.

The general expectation is that riders will be capped a lower-than-normal speed on their first trip. However, if beginner mode were launched without warning, riders may think there is an issue with the battery or throttle, degrading brand trust and preference.

The majority of safety accidents occur in a rider’s first few rides so the ask was to bring awareness & comprehension of the Slow First Ride feature while maintaining a positive rider experience.
